ODDBALLS

Your body is the one thing you can't switch jobs on

Another short one, because this message doesn’t need 2,000 words: take care of your body now, while it’s easy.

Why it’s easy to ignore

In your 20s, you can get away with almost anything — bad sleep, no exercise, eating whatever’s convenient — and feel mostly fine. That’s exactly the trap. The bill doesn’t arrive immediately, but it does arrive, usually as a habit that’s much harder to build once your body stops being so forgiving.

The basics, and that’s genuinely it

  • Move, regularly. Doesn’t have to be a fancy gym membership — walking, a home workout, sports, anything that gets you moving most days. Consistency beats intensity by a mile.
  • Eat like someone who plans to use this body for another 50 years. More whole food, less stuff that comes in a wrapper, and water instead of your third sugary drink of the day. Nobody’s asking for perfect.
  • Sleep isn’t optional. It’s the cheapest, most effective recovery tool you have, and skipping it undoes a lot of the other effort.

What we’d tell a friend

Pick one small thing and make it boring and automatic — a short walk after dinner, one home-cooked meal a day, lights off by a set time. Don’t wait for a health scare or a new year to “start.” The version of you a few years from now is built entirely out of what you repeat today.

General wellness reminder, not medical advice — talk to a doctor for anything specific to your health.
